Gopalpur is a town on the Bay of Bengal coast (currently called Bengal coast) in the southern part of Odisha (Orissa). Once a commercial port, it is now a famous sea beach and tourist destination. Gopalpur had an ancient commercial port, now lying in ruins. From an obscure little fishing village, Gopalpur became a prominent trading port during the days of British East India Company. The Company built large Warehouses for the trade with Burma and it became a trading point for cargo movements. The old jetty in Gopalpur is a tourist attraction, which was a major point for trade and commerce in medieval period. The sailors in ancient times started their journey from this jetty to Indonesia and Rangoon across the Indian Sea. The virginity of this beach lies on the fact that it has got a lovely beach that is absolutely deserted with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. The only sign of life that one gets to see is the fishermen on the shore with their catches and the associated women workers to carry them away for selling in the markets.

Mamallapuram, also known as Mahabalipuram, is a small town near to Chennai at a distance of 60 kilometers. Marari Beach

Kovalam, is a beach town on the coast of Arabian Sea near to Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala. It is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches. Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name, the village town offers an endless sight of coconut trees. It has been a favourite haunt of tourists, especially Europeans, since 1930s. A massive rocky promontory on the beaches have created a beautiful bay of calm and shallow waters stretching for hundreds of meters ideal for swimming and sun bathing.

Kovalam first received attention when the Regent Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bhayi of Travencore Kingdom constructed her beach resort- ‘Halcyon Castle’ towards the end of 1920s. Thereafter the place was brought to the public notice by her nephew. The European guests of the then Travancore Kingdom discovered the potentiality of the beach as a tourist destination in the year 1930.
